Dr. Moore was born in Rome, Georgia and spent his youth near Dallas, Texas. A resident of South Carolina since 1969, Dr. Moore received his undergraduate Degree in Biology and Chemistry from the University of South Carolina. He received his Medical Degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Dr. Moore then completed his Internship and Residency in General Surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, including a year of vascular and cancer research as the Culpepper Fellow. Dr. Moore completed his Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the Ochsner Clinic and Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Dr. Moore continues his special interest in vascular surgery and remains at the forefront of this field as a research participant and practitioner in the leading edge technology of Endovascular Surgery. He has published or co-published twenty five professional journal articles and currently has others in progress. He has authored or coauthored fifteen chapters for vascular and general surgery textbooks. He has also spoken to more than fifty professional societies and organizations regarding general, vascular and endovascular topics and state of the art surgical procedures.
Dr. Moore developed the Endovascular Surgery Program at Lexington Medical Center in 1996, which allows for minimally invasive treatment for patients with complex vascular disease. Participating in multiple FDA trials provided the opportunity to bring advanced, futuristic technology to South Carolinians, prior to the availability to the general public. The best example is the Medtronic AneuRx stent-graft that allows minimally invasive repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). This technique dramatically reduces the risk of complications, hospital stay, and recovery time. As of early 2005, Dr. Moore and Dr. Norton have placed over 175 AAA stent grafts with 0% mortality, as compared to a national average of 5-8% mortality, associated with traditional, open repair.
He is board certified in Vascular and General Surgery. He remains the only Fellowship trained, Board Certified Vascular Surgeon in the Midlands.
